Bringing Health Awareness to Nairobi West Prison on World Diabetes Day

Bringing Health Awareness to Nairobi West Prison on World Diabetes Day

Riara University, through the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics, Prof. Wanja, partnered with the Nairobi County Government to commemorate World Diabetes Day on 14th November 2025. The celebration was marked by a medical camp held at Nairobi West Prison, serving both the inmate population and the surrounding community.

To support this noble initiative, Riara University, in collaboration with MEDS and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), successfully mobilized and donated essential drugs and medical supplies. This contribution was made possible through the support of the University Management.

Riara University was represented by a strong multidisciplinary delegation which included:

  • Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics
  • Dean of Students
  • Health Unit
  • Students participating in community service
  • Estate Department
  • School of Education
  • Marketing Department
  • Human Resource Office

The University’s involvement contributed significantly to enhancing access to primary healthcare services, particularly screening, diagnosis, and diabetes management awareness for a vulnerable and marginalized population.

Riara University remains committed to engaging in impactful community outreach initiatives and strengthening partnerships that promote public health and well-being.
