CHARTER AWARD PRESS RELEASE

On March 19, 2025, Riara University achieved a historic milestone when it was granted a Charter by His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces. The award ceremony was held at State House, Nairobi, and marked a significant step in the University’s journey toward academic excellence and institutional independence.

The award of the Charter follows the successful fulfilment of the stringent standards set by the Commission for University Education (CUE) towards attainment of a Charter. Since 2012, the law requires that all new universities in Kenya are established through a Letter of Interim Authority, after which they are given a time period to obtain a Charter. This is the process that Riara University has just completed, following rigorous inspections and audits by the Commission for University Education, highlighting the University’s commitment to quality education since its inception.

It is worth highlighting that accreditation of a Letter of Interim Authority still gives such accredited institutions full mandate to offer PhD, Masters, Bachelors, Diploma, Certificate and other qualifications. As such, all qualifications and awards given by RU hitherto remain solid, retaining the very high regard that RU qualifications are accorded by regulators, employers, global institutions, among others.

The Charter award reaffirms Riara University’s commitment to nurturing innovative, ethical, and competent graduates, equipped to make meaningful contributions in their fields and in society.

With this recognition, RU is embarking on a new journey of RU 2.0, full of exciting developments and offerings coming up for students, staff and stakeholders.
