Community Service Initiative by Riara University School of Business in Collaboration with HADIMA AFRICA

On 30th November 2024, the School of Business at Riara University partnered with HADIMA AFRICA, a community-based organization (CBO) based in the vicinity, for an impactful community service activity. This initiative was organized for students taking the relevant unit this semester, aiming to engage them in meaningful social outreach while contributing to the local community. The ongoing activity has proven to be a significant opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world contexts, while simultaneously giving back to those in need.

The day’s activities were centered on three key pillars:

  1. Feeding Program for the Community
One of the primary objectives of the day was to provide a nourishing meal for members of the local community. The students, in collaboration with HADIMA AFRICA, set up a feeding program to cater to those who are often underserved in the community. This initiative was warmly received, as it addressed the immediate nutritional needs of families and individuals facing challenges, particularly in light of the ongoing economic constraints.
  2. Healthcare Checkups for the Elderly
A crucial part of the community service activity was dedicated to the health and well-being of the elderly in the local area. Students and volunteers conducted health checkups, including blood pressure tests and hypertension screenings, which are critical in managing the health of older individuals. Many elderly people in the community may not have regular access to healthcare services, and this initiative offered them a chance to monitor and manage their health more effectively.
  3. Anti-Drug Counseling Sessions
In response to growing concerns about substance abuse in the community, the students and HADIMA AFRICA also conducted anti-drug counseling sessions. These sessions aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use and provide support to individuals seeking help. The outreach was part of a broader effort to foster healthier, more informed community members, especially the youth who may be vulnerable to such challenges.

Additionally, the students demonstrated their commitment to the cause by donating clothes, shoes, and money, which were used to purchase dry food for distribution. These donations played a vital role in addressing some of the immediate needs of the community members. It is a testament to the generosity and compassion of the students involved, who were eager to make a tangible difference.

Another significant achievement was the development of a baseline questionnaire by the students in collaboration with HADIMA AFRICA. The questionnaire will serve as a foundational tool for establishing a community center in the area, which is designed to provide ongoing support and services to local residents. This initiative reflects the proactive role that students at Riara University play in shaping the future of the communities they serve, particularly through sustainable, long-term solutions.

As the event continues, we look forward to a successful day filled with meaningful interactions, impactful outreach, and valuable contributions to the well-being of the community. This initiative not only supports the local population but also encourages students to develop a sense of social responsibility, leadership, and empathy.

We are proud of the students’ efforts and their involvement in this community service activity and look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with HADIMA AFRICA for further community impact.
