
Riara University Partners with Raspberry Pi to Advance Digital Computing Education in Kenyan Schools
Riara University is implementing a nationwide teacher capacity building programme in partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation as part of its commitment to advancing digital literacy and strengthening STEM education in Kenya. The collaboration focuses on training public primary and junior school teachers on the Digital Computing Curriculum using the Raspberry Pi Foundation Curriculum which aligns with Kenya’s Competency Based Education framework.
Through this initiative Riara University is supporting the effective integration of digital skills in classrooms by equipping teachers with practical knowledge in coding digital systems and computational thinking. The programme is designed to enhance classroom delivery improve learner engagement and prepare schools for the demands of a technology driven education system.
The training targets teachers from Nairobi Kiambu Nyandarua Kajiado Makueni Laikipia Embu Murang’a Machakos and Nyeri counties with sessions conducted in phases across different regions.
The Nairobi County training was held on 27th and 28th August 2025 at Riara University with 106 teachers in attendance. The Kiambu County session followed on 19th and 20th September 2025 at Riara University and was attended by 93 teachers. The Nyandarua County training took place on 3rd and 4th October 2025 at Laikipia Comfort Hotel with 102 teachers participating.
For Kajiado County the programme was conducted on 31st October and 1st November 2025 at NITA Athi River where 102 teachers were trained. The Makueni County sessions were held on 21st and 22nd November 2025 at Kelvian Hotel with 92 teachers in attendance.
Across all the counties the training combined hands-on practical sessions curriculum integration strategies and classroom implementation techniques using Raspberry Pi devices. Teachers were introduced to lesson planning approaches aligned to the Competency Based Education framework and were supported to build confidence in delivering digital computing content.
