Riara University Signs the India-Kenya Innovation Nexus Pact

Hyderabad, India: On 14th and 15th October 2024, our Vice Chancellor Prof. Robert Gateru joined a few other Vice Chancellors of Kenyan universities to join a collaboration framework agreement between the Kenyan universities and the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad). This framework agreement will see the institutions collaborate deeply in the areas of student innovations and entrepreneurship, training, exchange programmes, joint programmes, joint research, joint hackathons, among others. The Kenyan universities include: Riara University, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, KCA University, Daystar University, Meru University of Science and Technology, University of Embu, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Masai Mara University, Egerton University, South Eastern Kenya University, and University of Kabianga. The partnership is supported by the British Council and facilitated by the Kenya National Innovation Agency.

Murty the Director of IIT Hyderabad, in the presence of Dr. Tonny Omwansa the CEO of the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA). RU also Part of East Africa-India-UK Tripartite Agreement

Besides IIT Hyderabad, Riara University also has a tripartite partnership with Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), which is the top ranked university in India on innovations and start-ups development. The partnership brings together Riara University and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Kenya, IIT Madras in India, University of Dar es Salaam College of Computing in Tanzania, and the University of Leeds in the UK. The parties visited IIT Madras in February 2024 and the tripartite agreement was signed in Mombasa Kenya in September 2024.

The partnership is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) of the UK government and also supported by the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA).

Already, a hackathon has been planned dubbed Rise 4.0: Reimagining Innovation for Sustainable Ecosystems through Industry 4.0 and pitting students from the 4 universities. See the poster below and scan the QR code to participate.
