RU 8th Commencement Ceremony Recap

The 8th commencement graduation ceremony took place on July 12, 2024, marked by joy, pride, and a sense of accomplishment at Riara University’s grounds. Candidates, faculty, family, and friends gathered to celebrate the Class of 2024. The day began with the Administration Police Band leading a march-past, setting a ceremonial tone. Following the mace bearer, Dr. Victor Lando, notable figures such as Prof. Robert Gateru, Riara University’s Vice Chancellor, and Ms. Jacqueline Kaniu, Deputy Registrar Academic Affairs, joined the graduands, affectionately known as the vanguards.

After the conferment ceremony led by the Vice Chancellor, representatives from different religious backgrounds offered prayers: Rita Waikuru Mbugua for Christians, Sheikh Hussein Zubeir for Muslims, and Vinit Khimji Vekaria for Hindus. The event continued with lively hosting by MC Michael Ogutu, who introduced entertainment acts, including a soulful performance by Gospel artist Manolo accompanied by guitarist and co-singer Chris Cravy.

Venus Ajumbo, the Valedictorian from the School of Law, delivered an inspiring address. Dr. Evans Amata, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, recognized guests and conveyed goodwill messages, followed by Prof. Robert Gateru’s remarks on current affairs and a humorous endorsement of Generation Z. Chancellor Dr. Wilfred Kiboro also addressed the audience, expressing his fondness for engaging with Riara University students.

Guest of Honor Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya, delivered a thoughtful speech touching on societal issues and encouraging the graduating Gen Z cohort. The ceremony included performances by student Amos Ashisoma and the presentation of excellence awards by Mr. Andrew Mathenge. Ms. Jacqueline Kaniu led the alumni pledge and announcements, while CTIC Julius Otundo oversaw the recognition of certificates.

Degrees and diplomas were conferred by the heads of respective schools, including Dr. Zephania Opati for the School of Business, Dr. Victor Lando for the School of Law (degrees), Julius Otundo for the School of Education, Prof. Francis Onditi for the School of International Relations and Diplomacy, and Prof. Felix Musau for the School of Computing Science. Dr. Wilfred Kiboro concluded with final awards and conferments.

The event concluded with a standing ovation and prayer led by MC Michael Ogutu, followed by Vice Chancellor Robert Gateru’s closing remarks and the dissolution of the assembly. The celebration was widely covered by the media, including live streaming on Riara University’s YouTube channel and featured on NTV News, highlighting the success of Riara University’s 8th commencement ceremony.
